Lava Coffee Dragon
A doodle drawn up from a conversation that spawned in the comments of the Reaper Bones Kickstarter project. (Essentially, I misread what someone said in the comments, joked about it, and people jokingly agreed it sounded like fun.)
Random Sketch Page (sketches)
Another random, recent page from my sketchbook. Let’s see what we have here…
Well, in the top corner in the box are some sushi. I was playing Youda Sushi Chef and was starting to make a “cheat sheet” for the recipes, when I realized how long it would take and went, “Meh. Okay, I won’t cheat.”
Then there’s some Pedobear and the Medicine Seller from Mononoke.
And, of course, we have mostly naked boys. Was looking at some studies that artist Jinx Star did and trying to learn from them. Nothing is a direct study of her studies, though. (I promise, to those worried, I’ll do studies from photographs rather than another artist. I was trying to learn “style” of depicting muscles on this page, that’s all.)
Plus, a totally derp hand and a snake making fun of the boy in the jeans. I didn’t draw him properly because I focused on his chest and then worked outward, so he has really wonky anatomy and I was tired and just didn’t try to fix anything. (Besides, it’s my sketchbook. I don’t really fix much in the sketchbook. I usually draw with a ballpoint pen to prevent myself from trying to “fix” things.)
PS: Now you know why I generally don’t scan from my sketchbook! I won’t post often from it - don’t worry. :B
Pony Time (sketch page)
A page from my sketchbook where I was learning the My Little Pony style. (And trying to do my own take on it, so I feel less like I’m “style biting”.)
As far as I know, these are all random ponies. I didn’t try to do direct fanart, because I wanted to watch more of the series before drawing fanart of characters from the show. I haven’t yet watched much of the show, but it was one of my favorite shows from the 1980s, so I’m already prepared to like it. xD
Kokeshi Magnet Dolls
Semi-3D kokeshi magnet dolls I made for a convention earlier this month. :)
The scans actually show flaws that aren’t readily visible in person. (Like how you can sometimes see the kimono through the obi. It’s less obvious or even completely not visible in person.) The glitter is less offensive in person too. ::laughs:: (Though I’m still glad that I stopped with the glitter after the first test batch.)
I gave many of them nicknames, but it seems silly for me to list them all. But I’ll bet you can figure out who I nicknamed “Citrus-Chan” and “Egypt-Chan”. xD
Details: The magnets are about 2 inches tall by 1.5 inches wide. If you can’t live without one or want a custom doll, they’re 7 USD each. (As always, my prices are slightly cheaper at conventions - so if you’re going to Momocon next year and can wait until then…)
A sketch I did for a challenge on a site in response to, “Fire Within” and “Include a Horse!”.
Apologies to those who know horses. I used a tutorial by Ditroi, another I found by Lee J. Ames (presumably from his “Draw 50 Horses” book, though it didn’t say on the site that showed the page), and a few photos I found via Google to attempt to get the horse correct.
I may draw the girl again because her design is going somewhere I like, but I was getting to the point of, “Meh, I’m on the edge of the page right now because I don’t want to draw over the horse I spent so long on (or give the impression I was hiding my flaws behind something I draw better) - I’ll just get this down.” I realize now that the nose ring and chain looks like stray scrawls because I was messy in my shading to indicate skin tone. D’oh.
Reblogging it to my blog. :)
weeklyartchallenges:
My submission for Weekly Art Challenge #19 is a Hyakki Yako - a demon parade. :3
I did the original sketches in May 2011 when trying to design a teeshirt for myself while I was on vacation (I’d bought a white teeshirt and some fabric markers and wanted to play - but I ruined the shirt and never finished the piece). Honestly, I can’t claim much “improvement” since these were only concept sketches done poolside, but it was the oldest thing I had from 2011. >3< I kind of like some of the originals a little better. At least, I wish I’d gone with the idea of throwing the kappa on the back of the kitsune. >_<!
Because I’ve been sick since Christmas, I didn’t end up having time to color this. So you’ll have to check me out in my sketchblog or DeviantArt account if you’d like to see the finished version or possibly individual yokai. (The original is not actually in parade formation - each was inked individually and rearranged in Photoshop, so when I color the parade, they may be in different places or different sizes.)
These are the yokai I could find names for:
hyakki yako
oni
Ittan-momen
Kasa-obake
Tsukumogami
Chōchinobake
Yuki-onna
tanuki
kappa
nekomata
kitsune
tanuki
tengu
Hitotsume-kozō
akuma
Rokurokubi
Kerakera-onna
The fish monster and eyeball monster are yokai whose names I couldn’t find the proper term for (which probably means they’re in-jokes rather than traditional yokai).

A Dog Named Chips
I have such a craving for French fries right now, you’ve no idea.
Available as a magnet in “Small” size. It’s approximately 4.5cm wide by 5.5cm tall. Click here for purchase info!

Sushi Dog
If I knew more about sushi/sashimi, I could probably joke about what sorts of bits are here and there. Unfortunately, all I’m willing to venture (so I don’t embarrass myself) is that there’s wasabi on his head. xD
Sushi Dog is available as a magnet in “Small” size. It’s approximately 5cm wide by 3.5cm tall. Click here for more purchasing info!

Orange Puppy
No pun or gag or in-joke here. I just wanted to draw a wonwon-ko orange.
